Facade Scanning of an Architectural Monument

Facade scanning of architectural monuments is often an essential component of reconstruction or restoration projects for historic buildings. In recent times, the requirements for such surveys increasingly involve the utilization of terrestrial laser scanning technology. It comes as no surprise, as laser scanning allows for the rapid collection of comprehensive information regarding the dimensional aspects of both the building itself and its intricate details and elements, all without physical contact with the historical structure. One of our early projects involved learning to process point clouds and transform them into intricate architectural drawings of facades, elements, details, templates, and sections.

The building, constructed in 1896, showcases eclectic architectural styles, blending Moorish, Byzantine, and Gothic influences. Facade scanning was conducted using the Faro Focus X130 terrestrial laser scanner. Laser scanning positions were registered into a unified coordinate system, resulting in a dense point cloud of scan data for subsequent processing in AutoCAD.
